About me

Dulce
From the AVM SURVIVORS web site: "Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are defects of the circulatory system that are generally believed to arise during embryonic or fetal development or soon after birth. Although AVMs can develop in many different sites, those located in the brain or spinal cord can have especially widespread effects on the body". I am currently undergoing embolizations with Dr. Wayne Yakes @ the Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO every 8 weeks! Our lives are either planning a procedure, having a procedure or recovering from a procedure! The trick lately seems to be to keep the "bleeds" under control! My husband Mark is also my caregiver! He has become an expert wound care therapist, not to mention all around bundle of being just exactly what I need to get through the day and this ordeal we call an AVM! I recently finished 10 years of Embolizations w/Dr. Yakes and am finally ready for my next stage - Debulking and reconstructive surgery w/Dr. Robinson in CO - he is a dentist and plastic surgeon! Best advice to an avm patient - Stay positive and surround yourself with supportive people! Lots of faith, prayer and love are all crucial too!

e-mail addresses!

Saturday, November 7, 2009

Hi Everyone!

Well, since our computer crashed, we lost everyone's e-mail addresses! So, if you haven't heard from us in a while .... I'm especially thinking of you Wendy in Canada! JoAnn and Ryan! Please e-mail me on my personal e-mail, or through the blog!

We'll be heading to CO very soon! I'm already missing my little Hanz and we haven't even left yet! I know that Jim and Shelley (Marks brother and his wife) take very good care of our baby, since they have 4 furry kids of their own! Not to mention that their good friends Buddy and Linda (the sweetest woman you'll ever meet!) live a stones throw away from Jim/Shelley and have a couple of furry kids of their own that adore our little Hanz! In case you're tuning in late - Linda and Buddy have a yorkie named Hockey, as well as a chocolate Lab named Coco and Hanz just has the best time running around with them, and with one of Jim/Shelleys outside dogs, Bessie! I just hate leaving Hanz, but I know he has a blast out there in the country with plenty of land to run on and lots of furry friends! Jim and Shelley, Linda and Buddy really love their pets, so I know Hanz is in the very best care possible! Not only does he have the other dogs to play with, but with Shelley, Linda and Buddy being retired, there is always someone around to keep Hanz company!

I haven't had an embolization since May, so I'm really excited about this upcoming one! Who'd ever think I would be looking forward to getting that IV going, huh? I've missed the staff @ Swedish, so I'll be happy to see them! Hoping my favorite Ambulatory Care nurse will be there - Sue! Plus, Rick, my favorite Recovery Room nurse - he is totally awesome!! Oh! And I hear that the real Saba had a baby, so there is lots to catch up with! Let's hope the weather is decent and not too darned cold! Take care and I will write about my latest adventure as soon as I can! Take Care!

Love and Hugs

Cyndi

P.S. I always like putting photos here, but am limited right now, due to loosing every photo that was in our old computer! This is me with Davis and I @ Grandmas!

Sister M. Juanita Villarreal, SSMO said...

I posted a message for our Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon to include you and your intentions in their prayers.
Here is the note I posted:
Nov. 13th
My eldest sister, Mary, is asking for our prayers for her daughter, Cyndi. Cyndi is nearly 40 years old and suffers from cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) and is currently undergoing embolizations with Dr. Wayne Yakes @ the Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO—every 8 weeks! She lives in Corpus Christi, TX but flies to Colorado to receive treatments. During this visit the doctors had to perform a tracheotomy due to the swelling from her AVM. She was unable to breathe the usual way. Mark, her husband, and her oldest sister and Mom are all with her in Colorado.
If you would like to know more about this condition, my niece has a blog (http://avmjourney.blogspot.com/). It is very sad, but Cyndi continues to be full of hope.

We are going to storm heaven for you!!
